NASA-Funded Scientists Discover Tenth Planet
July 29, 2005A planet larger than Pluto has been discovered in the outlying regions of the solar system.
The planet was discovered using the Samuel Oschin Telescope at Palomar Observatory near San Diego, Calif. The discovery was announced today by planetary scientist Dr. Mike Brown of the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, Calif., whose research is partly funded by NASA.
Anyone know what’s next in the Roman God lineup for naming this thing?

Planet X! I’ve got to listen to Art Belle tonight - if he’s still broadcasting. It’s been several years since I’ve had the chance to listen to him.
As for the name of a heathan god, how about Aeternitas, the personification of eternity?
Or perhaps Cardea, the goddess of the threshold.
More importantly: how will this effect astrology?

Could be Zeus. lol, common, unused, why not?

I don’t think they’re using Roman gods anymore - wasn’t the last ‘planet’ named after some Inuit fertility goddess?
And Zeus is taken by Jupitor.

I would vote for Persephina, Pluto’s mate. The realatively large moon of Pluto (it’s not considered a planet in its own right) is called Charon. That’s the name of the Greek god who ferrys soul across Acheron into Hades.

Just to get really picky…is Charon a God? Having a mum who’s Goddess of the Night and a grandfather who just goes by the name of Chaos does make him pretty impressive, but I’ve never heard him referred to as a God before…
Anyway, I vote to call the planet Douglas, after Douglas Adams.

He’s a lesser god.

Actually, there’s a little bit of controversy about Charon - they’re not sure it’s a moon, it may be a twin planet, making Pluto-Charon a unique double-planet,,,,I just wonder, wish we could hop in a spaceship and go there. Maybe a ride in one of those alien ships at Area 51?

We’ve done the ancient gods to death - time to start over.
E-Bay the right to name the new planet - proceeds to benefit NASA.
Lottery for same - just to make it ‘fair’.
Or name the new planet ‘Mickey’. Who knows that Pluto is the Roman god of the underworld? Most people associate the name with a friendly yellow cartoon dog. The next planets could be named ‘Mickey’ ‘Goofy’ ‘Donald’ and so forth . . .
