According to this story the identity of the person known as “Deep Throat”, a term coined by Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein of the Washington Post during the Nixon Impeachment times, has been revealed as 91-year old W. Mark Felt, the FBI’s number 2 man during the early 1970’s.

The question today is, does anyone really care today?

  1. At this point, this all has something of the impact of the “runaway bride” story. But I wish Mr. Felt all the best with it.

  2. Shrug. It’s a historical footnote at best.

  3. I think my parents will be way more interested than I. I was 3 when Nixon resigned and can’t really remember Nixon even being President. My mom has always thought Nixon was done wrong, but the older I get, the more I think, he shouldn’t have tried to cover it up. Then again, all I know is what I’ve been told and read, and over all, I just really haven’t been overly interested in it.

  4. Isn’t he the same FBI guy convicted of illegal wiretaps in the late ’70’s or early 80’s and pardoned by President Reagan? I bet the family wants to make a buck from the story before he passes on.

  5. The coverup did far more damage to the Nixon administration than just owning up to the initial burglary would have. “Black Bag Jobs” of that sort were quite common in those days, and it’s unlikely any of the higher level people would have gotten any more than a wrist-slap.

  6. Ya know, during Clinton’s impeachment the argument was advanced that since the motivation of the prosecutors was in doubt, Clinton should get a pass. Because Linda Tripp might have wanted a book deal, we should have let Clinton off the hook.

Now you have a guy, passed over the top job at the FBI, who apparently had no problem with illegal breakins per se, (as per the pardon he accepted from Reagan) sinking the political career of the guy who denied him the job he wanted.

And you have his daughter come out and admit this is all about making money to “pay some bills”

And yet, the left and the media are hailing this guy. I thought motivations and intentions were everything?
