Michelle Antoniotte and Her Vacation in Spain

Apparently, our own very dear royals are having a wonderful time in Spain. Kinda makes GWB chopping brush on the ranch in Crawford look positively plebian.

  1. I don’t begrudge the guys in the head shed their vacations. The job is 24×7, and pretty much anything that can be done at the White House can be done anywhere.

But .. sending the Missus and the kids to Spain? That’s tone deaf is what it is. I suspect a Republican mole in the White House, quietly making suggestions and being astounded as they are carried out.

And there are lots of places to go, nearby, that would cost us nothing at all. Camp David (I know from experience) is a real nice place with plenty of activities in the Catoctin Mountains. A nice pool, horseshoes, tennis, horse trail, etc.

But it’s a military base (with the military bits muted) so perhaps they don’t like it for that reason.

Yeah, that was the poll-tested image they wanted to convey on the movie set, which was immediately sold after W. left office.

Journos will grasp onto anything to sell copy. You can’t win if they don’t like you.

  3. The Crawford ranch a movie set? Que? They still own the ranch, Tom – weekend and holiday place, and I’ll bet you anything, he still chops brush.

  4. I read several reports that the ranch had been sold; one source said that they still own the place and visit it occasionally. So I guess if you hold owning a vacation “ranch” as more plebeian than vacationing in Spain, that’s your call to make.

If I had the kind of money that the Obamas and Bushes have, I’d probably do both and wouldn’t give a damn about what the press thinks about how I spend my free time. But my vacation home would be somewhere around Grand Marais on Lake Superior and I’d spend more time in Italy.

Superior? Man, Superior is less a lake and more a cauldron of ice that thaws for a month or two in the summer.

This is okay if you’re a polar bear or something. If I had a vacation compound on Superior, I’d spend most of my time in Italy as well.
