Now THAT was a good movie. It wasn’t a good comic book movie, it was a good movie. Just go.
I have to confess, one of the reasons I liked it so much is that Iron Man flies exactly the same way I fly when I have flying dreams. I know, sounds weird, but true.
Oh, and if you want to know what possible sequels may be coming out, stick around until after all the credits have rolled.
Update: While I was watching BSG last night, I had a brilliant flash of the obvious that Iron Man is a good Science Fiction Movie. That’s what makes it better than some of the other comic to screen stories that have come out recently. Plausible story, realistic human interaction, and current technology pushed to heightened capabilities. I also remembered thinking when I was in high school, that Iron Man’s armor was directly “borrowed” from Robert Heinlein’s “Starship Troopers.”
Okay, I’m done geeking out for the week.

I own about 500 comic books so Iron Man was an easy sell for me. My girlfriend is 48 and has never read a comic book in her life, but she loved the film, along with all the 20 somethings and kids in our group of 14. Maybe there is hope for Hollywood, after all.

Yeah, I loved the movie. Wasn’t really expecting to and was gleefully shocked at how great it was. I happen to have an inside track on this particular franchise and am willing to share what’s on the drawing board but won’t be a spoiler. I can be e-mailed if you really want to know.

Yep. OTOH Speed Racer is by fanboys for fanboys. TONS of money and good actors (if not acting) in the service of a story cobbled together from several episodes of the series. Don’t get me wrong, I loved it, but that’s because the original was imprinted deeply in my 8 year old brain.
I liked Iron Man despite having no familiarity with the source material. I can’t imagine that I would have liked Speed Racer at my age if i wasn’t doting on my memories of the original.
