My mother grew up in Laramie; I’ve been there several times. The wind blows constantly; a little to the east the interstate rises towards its highest point, and my mother tells tales of how brakeless transports (semis and the like) would come crashing into town from the Lincoln highway, lost to the steep switchbacks and the strong wind.

A little further to the east of Laramie— about fourteen miles— is a state park called Veedawoo. It is a collection of natural formations in the pinkish granite of the state, beautiful, dramatic, and very convenient as a safe turnoff when your aging sedan decides to stop working.

How much of the Oregon Trail have you travelled? I’d like to explore it more… haven’t seen much since I was a teenager.
