Okay, all you gizmo freaks. I’ve got a very very nice tax return coming this year…so much for tax breaks just for the rich…and I’m thinking of upgrading my MP3 players. I use both hard drive and flash. I’m thinking of going all IPod.
What say you all?

An iPod makes for a great all-purpose music player. Another one that’s a distant second is the Nike/Rio sport models that strap on your arm. If you’re a runner or cyclist, those are great models. Of course, an armband for your iPod would pretty much negate the need for the Nike/Rio.

I think, if I were in the markey, I’d be looking at a music player/PDA combo pack. Having a camera and phone in the same package would be nice too. But I think that’s still a developing product.

The larger-capacity gadgets of this sort are also potentially useful for transferring files from one computer to another. Saved my brother a lot of hassle when he replaced his machine, a couple of months back. But solid-state can store a lot of hours of music — what’s that 20GB really for?

Do it. Get an iBook, too.

Yeah, do it. But don’t get a mini, 4gb isn’t enough.

I’d say go with the iPod. I have the 20 gig 4th generation model myself. Which not only has it been a pretty good music player, it also worked out great for storing my digital photo’s on my vacation to Australia last year.

iPod, all the way, 40 gig, got one for Christmas. Can’t rave about it enough. Just have a fast connection for software updates.

I think Dave’s got a good point. Even 40gig could not accomodate my whole playlist (nor, I think, yours - Timmer). So why not just go SS, and download what you might want to play on a particular day?

I’m getting an iPod with my tax return. One of my students has the iPod shuffle, which is just freaky. It’s like this little piece of hard plastic–like something that would break off of something else–that plays music.

Actually, my entire CD library currently only takes up about 8 gigs digital. But that has a lot to do with the fact that I haven’t updated all of my tapes to CDs yet because while my car has a CD Player, Beautiful Wife’s Minivan still has a tape player…and yes…that’s something else we need to look at…along with a new driver’s seat ‘cuz damn…those van chairs just don’t last.
I’m thinking of getting the Shuffle when my Rio dies. But for now, it works just fine at the gym and my initial thought to go all iPod was knee-jerk. The Rio works well, it has everything the shuffle has plus a screen to see what I’m playing. All I really need is a bigger flash card for it and those are dropping price wise too.

And what about your BVDs? Surly, a dude like you must have LOTS of stuff on vinyl?

Don’t call me Shirley.
And I don’t want to talk about what happened to my vinyl. There was betrayal involved…it’s not pretty…someday I might be ready to blog about it…maybe…
MY NEPHEWS ARE UNGRATEFUL LITTLE WRETCHES WHO HAVE THE SOULS OF A MACHIAVELLI AND SOMEWHERE…OH YES…SOMEWHERE THERE’S A VINTAGE RECORD STORE OWNER THAT I *WILL* ONE DAY FIND AND SMITE.
