They should issue a warning when you adopt a dog that says “Warning, this pup will worm it’s way into your heart, stand by you no matter what, require nothing, take nothing, and finally have to leave you way before you’re ready, no matter how old they are.”
My heart is breaking. We had 4 1/2 wonderful years together, but it wasn’t enough. Then again, 40 years wouldn’t be enough. She’s running free with the angels now - no limp, no pain, just peace and love. She’ll run forever in my heart.

No, it is never long enough… my sympathies and condolences.

Some day i hope to be the person my dog thinks i am.
Dont know where i saw that first, but it is one of my goals in life.

Kipling, as usual, said it best.

A cycle of life. We lost an eighteen y.o. cat a couple of weeks ago - the last remaining survivor of the trio of Huey, Duie and Louie (Louie being a wonderful sheltie). On my return from an extended business trip I was greeted by Neko, a cute lttle grey tiger. She belongs to RHG, but I think she likes me best.
There will undoubtedly be other companions that will worm there way into your heart, but there is always room for those who came before.

Remember Kipling’s lines: “O Brother beware/Of giving your heart to a dog
to tear.”
As Radar says, it is part of the cycle of life. Still hurts like hell tho.

“If dogs don’t go to heaven, then I don’t want to go there.” Will Rogers
We’ve only had Max a little over a year and I don’t even want to think about the day he has to leave us.
I never would have thought a critter could get under my skin like this.
Me? I’d go rescue another one as soon as possible. I’ve become a dog person…never thought that would happen.
